Returning on 25th August for its 5th year, Indofood IRONMAN 70.3 Bintan is set to honour its position in the Top 5 of Indonesia’s most valuable tourism events, as recently awarded by the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism. The 2019 edition of this world-class long-distance triathlon event will bring 2000 visitors from 55 nationalities, traveling from 41 countries, to the island of Bintan. The presence of so many international visitors validates the event’s title of “Best Destination Race” awarded by AsiaTri in 2018.
The best participating amateur triathletes will have the opportunity to secure a slot for the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Taupo, New Zealand. The prestige of the event is enhanced this year by the increased number of qualifying slots from 30 in 2018 to 60 in 2019 as announced by MetaSport’s CEO, Nathalie Marquet, at the press conference held at the Wyndham Casablanca Hotel in Jakarta.
For the participants who are not racing with the hope of securing a world championship qualification but simply to complete the grueling 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run, two key changes will enhance their race experience. The first one is a rolling swim start, which consists of flagging off the athletes in groups of four every six seconds, replacing the previous mass start. These athletes will follow the new Elite Male and Female wave who will start ceremoniously as a group as the sun rises. The second enhancement aims to make the run course cooler owing to the presence of refreshing rain showers at regular intervals throughout the course.
The event venue remains Plaza Lagoi, the centrepiece of the Lagoi Bay tourism development in the special Bintan Resorts zone of the Indonesian island. The scenic one-lap bike course, redesigned successfully in 2018, unveils the true Indonesia taking in lush green hills, striking coastal stretches and picturesque kampong villages.
Indofood returns as title sponsor of the event for the 4th consecutive year. Indofood endorses sports as a mean to promote health and fitness, in addition to a balanced diet. The company shows its commitment by sponsoring various sporting teams and events in Indonesia, including football, running, and badminton. IRONMAN 70.3 Bintan Triathlon is a combination of strength, willpower, endurance and determination. Through this event, Indofood aims to bring together the communities and inspire them to practice heathier lifestyle.
By participating in this event, Indofood as a title sponsor and its participating brands, Indomie, Indomilk
and Club Water, would like to engage and interact more with consumers and triathlons sports communities. The company also believes in addition to creating proximity to consumers that the event will promote Bintan as a tourism destination for sport and leisure.
